I bought the pdf of The Hero's Journey 1st Edition a while ago because I loved the cover and the concept, but in the end, I didn't play it because there was too much OSR in it for me (I have the same problem with the excellent Beyond the Wall) - I started playing with Stormbringer, Call of Cthulhu and MERP among others, and while I appreciate the importance of D&D and the quality of renditions like Old School Essentials, and love the gonzo weirdness of things like Dungeon Crawl Classics or Crypts&Things, in the end, I just don't really "speak" D&D fluently; stuff like weird saving throw categories, thieving skills in percentages, level caps and arbitrary chances to do random stuff like kicking in doors being hard-wired into the rules will always seem strange and slightly off-putting to me ...<br />So getting a version of "The Hero's Journey" that has OSR roots, but dares to be its own thing, sounds very appealing to me - not in the least because I'm always interested in learning to speak a little more D&D, and Old School games that take a step back from the OSR rule-set while at the same time retaining some of its spirit have proven to be the thing that helps me most in learning this strange old language ...Swanosaurushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05623647202310934314noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8992605258478501966.post-42128256096805815882019-10-05T11:11:23.541-07:002019-10-05T11:11:23.541-07:00I didn't think I could get more excited for th...I didn't think I could get more excited for this.
